Swachh Bharat app gets over 2,000 complaints on Day one

Over 2,000 complaints of garbage and debris lying around were registered within 24 hours via the Swachh Delhi app, which was launched by the Delhi government and the municipal corporations on Monday.
By Tuesday afternoon, the app had received 2,200 complaints of garbage and malba, besides a few selfies and what appeared to be test photos of everything from shoes to trees.
“Thank u Delhi 4 huge response. 2,200 photos of garbage/ malba recd in less than 24 hrs,” tweeted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Though the Delhi government and the municipal corporations will be carrying out an intensive drive from November 22 to 30 to resolve the grievances, complaints are already being forwarded to the agencies responsible. This will be for the first time that the Aam Aadmi Party government and the BJP-ruled corporations will work together under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The garbage will be lifted by the municipalities, the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Delhi Cantonment Board. The construction debris, or malba, will be cleared by the government’s Public Works Department. Complaints will be logged at a central control room set up by the Urban Development Department.
“The response has been quite good on day one. From the over 2,000 complaints received, there were about 50 that were so-called bogus. For instance, people had sent in pictures of their face, shoes and trees. This is because it is still new,” said Sandeep Kumar, additional secretary in the Urban Development Department.
Mr. Kumar added that the complaints were being forwarded to the civic bodies’ central control rooms, from where they would be assigned to the ward-level officials for redressal. North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Ravinder Gupta said the Swachh Delhi app had been integrated with the Mayor’s Helpline of the civic body.
Delhiites can download the app by giving a missed call on 7666400400 and using the link that will be sent as a text message.
