Maruti drove in the premium hatchback 'Baleno' with an aggressive entry price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), launching the car from its upmarket retail network 'Nexa'.
The Baleno sports the 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 1.3-litre diesel and will compete with models such as Hyundai's 'Elite i20' and Honda's Jazz.
The petrol variants of the car are priced between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 7.01 lakh, while the diesel trims are priced in the range Rs 6.16 lakh to Rs 8.11 lakh. The petrol automatic variant, featuring continuously variable transmission (CVT), is priced at Rs 6.76 lakh.
Crucial safety features such as dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) come in as a standard on the vehicle which also features the Apple CarPlay interface.
India will be the sole manufacturing hub for the Baleno and Maruti plans to export the vehicle to over 100 countries, including the crucial Western European countries.
Maruti already sells the S-Cross crossover from the Nexa network and the Baleno is the second car to sell from the new sales channel.
