A team from UNICEF arrived in Muzaffarnagar on Monday and visited Chandpur villages to study the condition of malnourished toddlers and take stock of the steps taken by the district administration to improve their condition. The team of UNICEF and State Nutrition Mission arrived at Chandpur to shoot a documentary on the matter. District magistrate N C Shukla had started an anti-malnutrition drive in May this year.
The state government plans to frame the picture of malnourished children which has changed after providing them with health care and nutrition. For this purpose, two villages of Muzaffarnagar district have adopted by the district magistrate.

In a bid to curb the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Mother Mortality Rate (MMR) in the district, the DM had launched a drive, 'Jeevan Rakshak Camp', on May 26. These camps were organized in all the 285 Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) centres. In December 2014, a total of 1,319 children were recorded as malnourished in the district. Shukla, who has taken charge as DM in April 2015, had doubts on that figure and launched an intensive drive to find out the actual number of malnourished children. The result was shocking as 8,615 children were found to be underweight and malnourished in Muzaffarnagar.
"We provided all these children with medicines and other nutritious food items. The children are examined periodically at ANM centres, and their condition is recorded along with their medical tests. To make sure that the drive does not stop, the DM not only adopted two villages himself but all the other administrative officials were instructed to adopt two villages each. We got a tremendous success in beating malnourishment in the past four months. The government also recognised our efforts, and hence the decision to shoot a documentary in Muzaffarnagar," chief development officer Avnish Sharma said.
Advisor of state nutrition mission, Mustafa Kamal, said the documentary shooting would continue for two days and it will be broadcast in all the districts of the state. "Muzaffarnagar will be presented as a role model for other districts," he said.
